The Place:

The coffee was pretty good because I ordered a second round!  The place was clean and not too busy or loud.  Sitting at the window seat provided a view of the square and the happenings of Palmerston North.  The menu here is vast. You can get seafood, salads, steak, fish, curries, and pastas.  There are vegetarian options and some dishes can even be ordered in small or large portions.  Feel like a nice wine, check, they have it here as well.  The only thing I would say could be added is a wee kid’s menu.  There is plenty of seating inside and some outside. What a lovely atmosphere to dine in.

The Service:

The service was friendly and attentive and fast.

The presentation:

The chutney on the side was original.  The whole composition of the dish was perfect.  The layering was appealing to the eye.

  • The Benedict – the pocket on top added peppery crispness. The size was just right as I usually find it just a wee bit too much (even if I eat it all).
  • The Muffins – were toasted english muffins.
  • The eggs – were runny and warm!
  • The bacon – was good.
  • The spinach – the spinach added some colour to the dish.
  • The hollandaise – homemade, and tasty.  A good rich colour and not drowning my bene.

Would we go again?

Yes, what a great dining experience.

Style: Classic 8/10. The chutney on the side was novel.  It’s amazing how something as simple as adding a side of chutney can lift the dish and give it an edge.

Taste: 8/10. The taste was mouth watering.

Originality: 7/10 – the chutney and calculated arranging of the food added to the overall appeal of the dish.

Value: 9/10. It’s really good value here. The Benedict (leg ham or bacon), Vancouver (Salmon or AKA the Montreal) or Florentine (Spinach) are all $16.50

Eggs: (how good they were): 8/10. They were runny and warm.

Overall score: 8.5/10
